About Capefish

It takes awhile sometimes to figure out just what the heck you are doing. I can remember driving home one day and telling my loving and most understanding wife  Lauren , that I wanted to start a brand based on fly fishing. I absolutely hated my job, I was burnt out. Miserable. I loved to fly fish, guide and be around people that did the same. Lovingly, she told me to go for it. We took a chance and opened Capefish in the summer of 2013. I figured that a cool shop that focused on what we loved to do could resonate a little bit around our community.  I never expected what doing all of that would lead to. 

It turned out to be wonderful and a bit painful to say the least.  We grew up fast learning about the issues surrounding small business, pressures and expectations to provide the consumers with the popular brand names associated within the marketplace. Through it all we forgot why we started it. Original concept, Do something original, our own way, create something to share with the people who cared and wanted to share their own experiences through our sport. We wanted to create an environment, and we got a little sidetracked. 

Capefish has always been from the very beginning about the journey, the stories, the experience. Our brand suggests relationships, may it be a shared beer with friends when you finally dock and your clothes are soaking wet from the chop, or calling a buddy when your trailer blows a bearing coming home from the Cape. A memory of working elusive fish on Stellwagen with your best friend or tying flies till two in the morning during the winter. Whatever it may be, that is the stuff you remember, that is the stuff that is special. That is Capefish. 

Through it all we were humbled. But it is time to move forward. We are going to get this brand going. We are going to get back to what we originally planned and get back to what we are proud of. This is about sharing the experience, putting forth what is good for our sport and the familiarity of what can be gained by being out there, talking to people and finding a good feeling around the water.  We hope everyone that has supported us in the past can continue to join us, and that our previous contributions, always intended to the overall gain of fly fishing, will work toward a most fabulous outcome. We are so grateful for the tremendous opportunity.

So a boast to everyone, especially for those who have helped us so far, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.   For the fresh Capefish crew going forward, we welcome you to climb aboard a new chapter of our future. And like we always say… Go get it!
